I stayed at this property a few years ago and had a positive experience, which is why I returned. However, this time during my stay a couple of weeks ago, I didn't have a great time. Firstly, the staff was very rude, for example, during one of the breakfasts, I asked nicely for coffee, and as the waiter was pouring the coffee into my cup, he was talking about me in Spanish, not knowing I can actually understand it. Almost everyone just seemed like they were being forced to work. Also, the room wasn't even cleaned properly upon our arrival. I had paid for birthday decorations in the room, and half of the balloons were on the floor deflated. Mind you, I was charged over $100 for this decoration. Overall, won't be coming back again.

I loved my stay here. Property is very big. Staff is kind, i enjoyed the food, the beach is big and breathtakingly beautiful. Crystal clear turquoise waters. They have a coral reef system with lots of fish so bring your goggles. Decor is dated but in person the room is not bad. Oceanfront room was spacious, clean, smells good, and I have the double balcony. I asked for a mattress cover and it was so plush and comfy. I removed the Barney purple/pink pillows/throw off the bed and it instantly looked better. Food was good here and lots of options. I didn’t attend any of the events because I just wanted to relax. They have a free book library where the luggage is kept. CON- Air Conditioner is almost nonexistent I was hot and uncomfortable the majority of the time especially at night. When I put my hand up to the vent I could feel cold air but it was not circulating through the room. The force coming out was maybe 3/10 very weak, the fan doesn’t spin fast so I can’t even feel it cause it’s not over the bed. 2 service calls and it was blowing better but still not enough to be comfortable. Felt like 75/76 degrees. With the exception of the AC issue everything else was perfect and I loved this resort. I’ve been to 5 different Riu’s and this one was my favorite

Terrible experience, poor food quality, service was extremely poor . We got food poisoning . Not kid friendly . Elevator & hallways had no A/C, Restroom had a leak on sink and the toilet clogged up . Roaches were crawling all over the counter of the food

Riu Palace Peninsula is one of my favorites in Cancun , food is great , pools , the beach is awsome , an Oxxo store ( like a 7/11 in the US ) and a pharmacy are 5 min walking distance , I would recomend it .

I stayed for 4 days/3 nights , hotel itself not bad but need a renovation because everything is kind of old .Also need put warm blanket in the room , since fan not possible to turn off .Beautiful ocean view. Beach is beautiful , food I love Krystal and Italian restaurant , buffet has a lot of options , food there is good .Party in Riu was super cool .I would say hotel is good for one time experience .

Overall good hotel. Staff is very friendly and food is good. Room furniture, towels , bedding , and mattresses all need updating. Gave 4 stars because the hotel did not accommodate our request to have 2 connecting rooms. We are family of 5 , booked 2 rooms and requested connecting rooms . Hotel management gave us 2 separate rooms , saying the hotel is booked and they did not have connecting rooms . One of the rooms AC did not cool down enough and the Safe door did not lock .
