Two night stay
Everyone has been very pleasant and helpful however I was very disappointed when we tried to eat in on Saturday evening. We were never told we had to book a table nor were we informed there would be an event that evening allowing food only to be served in the bar area. We were eventually accommodated with another table being set up. However the bar was busy and it was surprising that all the coats of the event guests were hung in the bar area which certainly detracted from the ambience. I would have thought they should have been placed in an area actually rented by the wedding party.

The Gonville is always a wonderful place to arrive. The Staff is friendly, the beds and pillows are very comfortable, the rooms are quiet and the food at the restaurant is delicious.

Stayed in this hotel because of the central location and availability of parking (extra £26). Quality of room was excellent as was the breakfast. Bathroom was very compact but adequate with good water pressure. Staff were friendly. Had a slight hiccup at check-in when they charged me for the room even though it had been prepaid; however, this was quickly sorted out at check out.

Hotel in general is good but toilet is small, this maybe because of historical reasons. Bentley tour is not easy for booking if you stay for one night or better check in early as possible to reserve a tour.

The staff really make this hotel
We stay here while visiting family living nearby. The location is great near to family and walking distance to city centre. We love the shops and restaurants in the centre and the hotel restaurant is great as well with good views onto Parkers Piece. The room was very comfortable but there were some stains on the carpet and a little mould on the bathroom ceiling. Whenever we stay at this hotel we have always found the staff to be excellent; friendly, polite and helpful - will obviously stay here again.

A very disappointing experience
The glass sliding door to our shower room had come off its bottom runner and was swinging dangerously when we arrived. The service and quality of food in the restaurant on Sunday evening was dreadful apparently due to staffing problem in the kitchen. There were several mistakes in our bill when we checked out. We had been charged for breakfasts we did not have. The meal bill has been charged twice to our acccount and we are told that this should be sorted out in a few days!

Lovely hotel and room, although the room was looking a little tired in places. Great welcome from staff on arrival. I had checked in advance for a vegan breakfast and was assured this was not a problem and indeed I was given a vegan breakfast menu on check-in, which looked fab. Tried to order this at breakfast but the restaurant staff (and kitchen) acted as if they had never seen the menu before. We were then told that the Vegan Menu options of Tofu Omelette and Vegan sausages, were NOT vegan at all. And there were also no saute potatoes or hash browns available. I ended up with one mushroom, some avocado and some sliced raw tofu (unflavoured and inedible) and toast made with bread I had brought myself (gluten free and vegan). Reception staff did deduct breakfast from the bill, but the hassle we had with the restaurant staff over trying to order something vegan for breakfast really spoiled the day. For a hotel of this standard in a thriving, cosmopolitan city, I expected better. I would expect a full vegan breakfast to be available on the menu as a standard option. There is no excuse for it not being in this day and age.
