This place was extremely grimy and unsafe. The bathroom was covered in mould and looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in months. The so-called “veranda” was outright dangerous, with a floor made of loose wooden planks placed on top of a corrugated tin roof. Stepping onto it, you could feel the floor flex and buckle, making it feel like it could give way at any moment.
The door leading to the veranda didn’t fit the frame properly, leaving large gaps that could allow pests—or worse—to enter. It was “secured” with nothing more than a flimsy slide lock. To make matters worse, our bathroom window faced the veranda of another unit, and the blinds were missing slats, offering no privacy at all. Finally, there were cockroaches in the room and even in the limited cutlery the room provided.
