When I have a meeting at the Hynes convention center, I’ve usually stayed somewhere on Newbury. I had to book late this time and couldn’t find one. The hotels in the area were mostly booked, but CitizenM did have availability, although at an amazingly exorbitant rate. On the positive side, it’s across the street from a T station and a short walk to the convention center. The room was clean and the pillows were comfortable. However there are significant drawbacks. A dysfunctional app is needed for checkin, and it controls room temp, lights, TV, HVAC, and other room functions. There is no coffee maker and the fridge is quite small and not particularly cold. I chose a soundproof room that was anything but soundproof. The bed extends from one wall to the other, making it open on one side only, and the mattress is very firm. The real gripe I have is that the room is extremely tiny for the very high room rate. Amazingly, the desk clerk simply and steadfastly refused to give me a printed receipt at checkout because I had booked the room through Travelocity. I should have asked to speak to a manager about this, but I needed to get to the airport. I would not stay there again unless there were no other option. Boston, of course, has many other options.

Great property but small rooms
The hotel is wonderful, service excellent, location prime. The only downside is the rooms are extremely small. For two people it was not ideal. Otherwise it’s wonderful.

The mattress was hard and the pillows were soft. It was an uncomfortable sleep. The room seemed sparse and unwelcoming in spite of the kitchy decor. The rates were high, and I had to pay extra for breakfast – what the heck! Not even a cup of coffee for free. I also found it awkward to have to go up two elevators every time I came in and out of the building. Did not love it.

Very clean, friendly staff, convenient location. The rooms were high tech and controlled by an iPad, but also had light switches if you didn’t want to use them. Rooms were a bit small but laid out well. Will be visiting again!

Fun place! Tiny functional rooms with a huge colorful common area to hang out. I loved it! Great location for walking around Boston and getting into Cambridge.

The hotel was very nice and super clean with friendly staff and I liked the easy check in but the shades were on an iPad which would randomly open and close or the control would just not work sometimes. Throughout the night even if you put the room in dream mode the tv will turn on so we had to unplug it completely. We paid the extra 60$ for a late check out and were woken by staff knocking on the door and even coming in with the sign on the door.
