Firstly, despite being eligible for early check-in, I was told upon arrival that I should have contacted the hotel in advance to request it and that there was nothing the staff could do at the stage I arrived (only one hour prior to the check-in time of 3 pm). The automated check-in wasn’t intuitive/user-friendly and, when I could finally check in, the system assigned me a room already occupied (luggage, personal effects, and a pretty bad smell already in the room). I was told to go to “customer service” to request another room. Customer service said the person in the room I had been assigned was “afraid of heights” and asked to be moved to another room but she wasn’t fast enough to move, which is why I found her belongings still there. I was told I could occupy the room after she left, which left me appalled, as the room had already been used and the hotel was about to assign it to me without any further cleaning. Eventually, I was given another room in a remote side of the hotel, including through a flight of stairs for which an elevator wasn’t accessible, and with terrible illumination, view, layout and constant noise. Super disappointing… hard to believe this was a 4-star hotel.
