Really good stay. The staff are incredible throughout the day, regardless who is working. Everyone cares, thoughtful, kind and considerate. It's so refreshing to be handled with such care and thought. Breakfast was excellent, and a must have - proper sausages and bacon on the full english, and they have mastered the art of a poached egg! Some noise from the main road of an evening, but you can't do anything with that if you are at the front of the property and close to the road. Rare gem for parking, safe and secure in private car park. A tremendous stay, and a 10/10 hotel. A refreshing level of customer service with genuine people. Cannot recommend enough and really appreciate the work of the team there.

Always great service and sparkling clean! The building is old and some peeling paint/cracks here and there but thats to be expected. Great breakfast, comfy bed snd good shower. Can't ask for more, really!

What a find

Stayed by chance, what an adorable find! It the right thing of everything in my idea. Very comfortable, extremely good value & amazing staff in all departments. Secure parking was a bonus too. Will be back now we know.

I spent the last two and half weeks at the George. It’s a very pleasant and convenient place to stay with a wonderful staff. Excellent value! My room was excellent. I had a very comfortable bed, clean on-suite with decent water pressure. At night my room was cosy with decent bed and sheets. There was a desk to work on and enough outlets, which I could find too! Every my room was neatly cleaned, spotless. Vacuuming and all. The parking. It’s behind a locked sliding door which is great. Reception give you a code to get in. I carry a lot in my car and constantly worry about not having secure parking. Secure parking is a big plus. 👍 The food! Occasionally i would have a drink on a Friday night down in the bar. Nice atmosphere with a combination and locals/ former locals and people travelling through. The best bit… Breakfast. Fantastic Full English breakfast, the there’s the poached eggs. The continental option is great in the morning too, fresh fruit, pastries and a decent choice in cereals. Good coffee and tea, breakfast is made fresh to order straight out of the kitchen. The bar area and downstairs has recently been renovated nicely. Most of all the staff are fantastic and very friendly. Who really put them selves out there to be as helpful as possible. The George is a great place to stay.

Ok place

Room 28. 2 nights. Room needs renovation. Good breakfast. Parking in covered locked garage. In town. Window wouldn't close but the heating kept the cold out. Wall had water dripping and made bed a little damp. Just pulled bed away from wall. Good coffee and biscuits in room. No tea spoons. Felt safe and would stay again. Although a little pricey for the condition of the room

Clean and comfy rooms. Finding the room was interesting, multiple staircases to go up and down. Secure parking but not much space. Wasn’t very clear that you had to check in with the staff behind the bar.

Stayed here for one night on new year's. Was a comfortable stay, our room was quite a way from the entrance - up and down stairs and corridors, not a problem for us but could be difficult for someone with mobility issues. Room was a good size and had shower gels, tea and coffee. Comfy bed. Had dinner in the evening which was nice though seemed there was only 2 vegetarian options so a couple more would have been better. Breakfast was nice and a good amount of options. Staff were really friendly. Would stay again and recommend to friends and family.

I would have given better but our booking was cancelled at 4pm on Christmas day. I am still waiting for a response from Managers. Myself, my partner and our dog slept in our car on Christmas evening. A Christmas we will not be forgetting!

The parking situation was not ideal. No directions or signage til at the underground garage. Have to obtain password from reception to unlock padlock to pull heavy metal gate open then closed. No direct route to hotel. So you drag luggage round the main road to the front of the pub/hotel.

Stay away from room 16

This was a very late booking and we unfortunately got the last available room, room 16, which is directly above the pub and right outside the Granary. We could sing along to all the songs that were playing and hear the foul conversations people were having outside until the pub closed at (around) midnight. The room itself is very outdated and in poor condition. The carpets have marks, the beds are not the most comfortable, the paint is peeling off in many places in the bathroom and the flushing mechanism takes A LOT of force to push down. The upside is that the staff were friendly and a pleasure to deal with, the hotel is pet friendly and the included breakfast is very good.

I have stayed here a few times, in both single and double rooms. The rooms have always been clean with nice toiletries and I have enjoyed a very fulfilling vegan breakfast. It is a busy pub so it can sometimes take longer to be served drinks but the staff I've met are all friendly and I look forward to going back next year.
