A quaint old colonial building with a much history of the gold mining opulence imbued in the art and furniture. The rooms are very small for the price. The small TV fits it the cupboard. The bathroom is updated and satisfactory.

I loved the location and the actual historic building but the service was subpar. Out of the 5 people I dealt with only 2 was what one would expect hotel staff need to be like. Also they do not cater for feather allergies and aparantly have never had any problem with people with feather allergies. I asked the one service supervisor lady on the bar what these people did with their feather allergy problem considering EVERYTHING'S got feathers in them. She said: Well usually people bring their own bedding. This was after the lady booking me felt to me like I had to beg her to book me in and after taking my deposit telling me that they do not service the rooms... and tells me breakfast is served at 7 only to find out thats something you pay for extra. Its a shame about the staff as the town and the actual building and facilities are actually very nice.

Treat Yourself to Old Fashioned Luxury

Majestic, looking a little tired in some of the general areas but the room very luxurious. Modern bathroom with a Spa, robes and extra large bath towels was a big plus. Only criticism is that the power-points were tucked behind a table and one of the old world lounge chairs which made it difficult to position the ironing board and iron our clothes or even charge our phones.

Great heritage building

Great location. Great room. Great bed. We didn't receive room service though - not sure if they just missed us or they don't provide it (or you have to pay more) but we were only there for 2 nights so not a big deal. It is a beautiful old building - make sure you go and explore it.

I love the Craig Putty the music in the front of house was aimed at the under 20’s, something a bit more fitting with the period would lift the guest extra Please make good DJKING

Property is a bit run down in some areas (drapes, carpets etc. Dinner was quite nice although my meal was very good, but my wife’s was not, breakfast was good although no coffee available?? There seemed a lack of staff, possibly because of Australia Day public holiday although check in was excellent and staff generally were good. Rooms are a bit small but it’s an old hotel. Overall 7/10

The building is unique; so much heritage. So many famous people stayed in the room we paid so much (too much) for. It was supposed to be a King bed, but sadly was smaller than a queen.(It was long, however.) And really, I needed a ladder to climb in. The pillows(2 each) were flat; luckily I brought my own.The curtains were dusty and one lace one was ripped. The carpets were old; and, yes, perhaps they were supposed to be. Power points were hard to find. The bathroom was beautiful; an oasis in the desert. But sadly one of the hand towel holders fell off in my husband's hand. All it needed was a better screw. So, the Dame Nellie suite was a disappointment. It needed a good clean and some maintenance. The hotel could be beautiful, but the love is just not there. The reception staff could be more attentive to their tasks. I would not return but urge you to go and look at a bygone era

Maintenance?

Classic room #119 had openable window (good), but ceiling in bathroom opened beyond chipboard into roof space! Only 6 hangars in wardrobe, 1 of 2 bedside table lamps' globe blown (knob missing one door). Room not serviced during 6 days (unless requested: "We're Going Green" = cost savings, staff shortage?). Wear and torn carpet edge, main staircase. No luggage/suitcase stand/rack to save bending down to floor level.
