Booked a couple of rooms on a Saturday for a birthday. The rooms were tidy and clean and staff were extra helpful as I’d expect for a 5 star establishment, however: • Wasn’t advised of the room bond when I booked months ago. Other hotels I’ve stayed in haven’t charged this when paying by credit card, rather they’ve taken my credit card details and charged if necessary. I'm fine with paying a bond but not having this clearly outlined was poor. Not sure if this was an issue with Expedia or the details provided by the hotel in Expedia’s listing. • Wasn’t advised that there was a food and beverage allowance for each room when we checked in. Was only told of this on check out when I tried to pay for the items I’d consumed and we were too short on time to use the balance of the allowance before we left. They have offered a credit for the next time stay but I rarely stay in the CBD at all so I’m still waiting on word of where else this can be used e.g. their restaurant. • The person who took my ID on check-in didn’t give it back. The next day I was contacted saying that I was the one who left it there? They were kind enough to post this back to me though which was appreciated. The TV in the room also wasn’t completely functional but like the other 3 points it was a minor inconvenience at the end of the day. Overall for the price and expectations of a 5 star hotel the experience fell a little flat.

We had a lovely stay, the lobby and terrace were classy, service was good. They could use more staff at the concierge. And need more lifts which they are currently working on. Breakfast was good as well

OK - But not the best value.

Front of house were OK. But the checkin was transactional. I've already provided feedback about the breakfast in my previous survey - however I'd not recommend it for what it costs. And for $45 it doesn't even include a flat white - filter coffee and an average buffet (cold bacon, mashed up baked beans.... omelette which I don't think had been seasoned). Checkut was good. Pleasant and took my feedback about breakfast well. My room was apparently an upgrade, but looking directly into other Sky City hotel rooms wasn't appropriate, so it was curtains closed whenever in the room. OK if you don't want natural light. My room was 'cleaned' on my first day, however there were used towels and wet flannels left in the room and an empty soap bottle in the shower. Great location for restaurants and entertainment. Great meal at The Depot (one of their restaurants). Makes me wonder why they can't replicate the same value for their breakfast buffet. I stay at other hotels in the Auckland CBD, and I'd recommend them over The Grand by Sky City if you're watching your budget and are looking for value for money.

Hotel room was OK. Buffet breakfast appalling!

The buffet breakfast for the cost and NO included flat white is appalling! The hotel needs to understand that the breakfast is nearly the last impression a guest may leave with. I’d not recommend it.

Upper class establishment. Staff interaction and look have improved by well over recent stays. Whomever is running TheGrand now is doing it right. It was an absolute pleasure.
