What a lovely place to stay, and it is within walking distance of the train! The hotel is unassuming on the outside, but it has been beautifully remodeled and updated inside. The staff were very friendly and helpful, even though we arrived at 11pm. I already had a different hotel booked for our trip back, but I wish I had cancelled and come back here instead. I highly recommend it!!
Newly renovated. Very clean. Friendly staff. Superiorly furnished room. Odd central elevator took it to 3rd floor then had to go down a staircase of 7 steps to get to 3rd floor
The hotel is fully renovated, actually still under construction.
Disregard all old negative feedback (pre 2024) you may read on forums, it’s an entirely new hotel.
It’s very clean and has a nice interior design.
It’s at the edge of downtown but it’s all walkable.
Effective blackout curtains (very important in Alaska)
The not so positive:
Sound proofing is not good. At night your sleep will be disturbed either by the train or the local hicks that think it’s fun to drive around with monster pickup trucks with modified mufflers, depending on which side your windows are
Check in staff in the evening was not very friendly
Like everywhere downtown, there are homeless with mental health problems
I was pleasantly surprised! I thought the Aviator Hotel was an older hotel and located in a different location. The ladies at check-in were very welcoming. Check out was easy. We would stay again.
Front desk staff is a little green in presenting information in a professional manner. I shouldn’t have to ask questions such as “what are my breakfast options”. Asked for two keys, got only one. Lots of chatting amongst colleagues and little focus on looking and behaving professionally.
Air extractor in the bathroom is way too loud.
Other than that, the new decor (remodeling still in progress as I write this) is very elegant, original and tasteful.
This is a very good option for downtown lodging. The hotel is towards the end of a major renovation, but there was not much work remaining when we were there. We stayed there at the beginning and end of our train trip. Rooms facing the parking lot are quieter that the ones facing 4th Street. There is an excellent coffee shop/gift shop onsite, as well as a full service restaurant. We did not eat breakfast so can't attest to the quality of the food.
