This was our first time staying at Royal Sands Resort & Spa in Cancún, and sadly, it was a disappointing experience from the start. While the property itself is visually appealing, the service and overall experience fell far short—especially as Mexican guests who were not part of the timeshare program.
It became quickly apparent that this resort is primarily geared toward timeshare members. As non-timeshare guests, we constantly felt like an afterthought. The level of service we received was noticeably different—like we were a burden rather than welcomed visitors. We traveled with my sister and her family, and they felt the same: overlooked, ignored, and treated like second-class guests.
Although the resort is advertised as “all-inclusive,” many items still came with additional charges, which felt misleading. Over half of the restaurants required reservations, and despite calling right at 8:00 AM, everything was booked by 8:02. It was frustrating and disorganized. There were also no shows available without reservations, leaving us with very limited options for entertainment.
The drinks were watered down, and again, unless you were a timeshare guest, it felt like good service just wasn't a priority. We often had to hunt down staff for assistance instead of being offered help or attention—something that felt especially unfair when we saw others being served promptly and proactively.
